Our last day in Kapas, time really flies!
Still, there’s enough of it for one more snorkeling session, and one more breakfast with feet on the sand.

A short boat trip and we are in Marang.
Where we could not wait to buy once again the treats we tried few days before at the morning market.

In the next morning a new destiny, can it get better?

The Ultimate Travel Guide To Gemia Island, Malaysia

Stunning Gemia Island is one of Malaysia’s secrets, that most have never heard of.
Luckily, we are putting the word on the streets, paradisiacal Gemia is gorgeous and is waiting for you!

Located 800 meters from Kapas Island, it fits perfectly on an island hopping vacation, but can also be the one and only star of your holidays.
Paradisiacal setting awaits lucky travelers that make their way to the small, yet enchanting island.
Great snorkeling, crystal clear water, white sand beach, and exotic scenery will be your sweet reality.

Where To Stay

There’s only one hotel located in Gemia Island, luckily it’s a nice one, you can check everything about it on the link below.

The Ultimate Travel Guide To Gemia Island, Malaysia

Gem Island Resort & Spa
Website: http://www.gemisland.com.my
*A dive center is available at the hotel.
**The hotel is closed for monsoon season, it will open again on March 1st, 2018.

For vegans, some of the hotel staff speaks good English, you can explain your diet preferences.
If staying at the hotel, we recommend talking about it before booking to make sure it suits your needs, as buffet style meals are served(you have the option to order a la carte but it is not included in the package prices).

What To Do

⚫Snorkeling
Great barracudas, blacktip reef sharks, magnificent sea anemone, crown-of-thorns starfish, and many other beautiful fishes and coral can be found around the island.
The hotel offers guided snorkeling packages, if you have any experience, you can definitely do it by yourself.

⚫Diving
The resort has a dive center where you can book different styles of courses or dives.
Contact the hotel to check latest prices and schedule.

⚫Kayaking
The crystal clear water makes for a beautiful kayaking experience.
Going around the island, or all the way to Kapas is easy and doable even for those without experience(if you are not a skilled swimmer, please, use a life jacket).

⚫Chill On The Beach/ Hammock Time
It is a paradisiacal island, no explanation needed.😜

⚫Turtle Watching
A turtle conservation project takes places at the hotel premises.
There’s a protected space where the eggs laid in the sand are cataloged and safe to hatch.
Also, a small pool(nearby the hotel swimming pool), where the baby turtles stay until they’re ready to be released into the sea.

⚫Exploring
There are rock formations and a few beaches to be explored around the island, there’s not an actual trek per say, but you can create your own route.

⚫Spa
Unfortunately, as it was very near to the hotel closing date for monsoon season, the spa wasn’t working when we visited.
If this is something important to you, make sure to check with the hotel beforehand.
The majority of the time though, you’ll be able to get a massage to further extend your relaxation.

How To Get There

To go directly to Gem Island, there’s a special boat schedule by Surialink company from Marang, taking 15min and costing rm75 for a round trip ticket.
Timetable:
Marang Jetty to Gem Island – departs at 09:00, 11:00, 13:00*, 15:00.
Gem Island to Marang Jetty – departs at 09:30, 11:30, 13:30*, 15:30.
* These 2 schedules are not available on Fridays only.
To see how to arrive in Marang, you can click here, where our post on “How To Get To Kapas” will explain it step-by-step.

The Ultimate Travel Guide To Gemia Island, Malaysia

Boats to neighbor Kapas cost only rm30 round trip, I would recommend staying at least a night in Kapas as well, if you have time.
In case you don’t want/can’t stay in Kapas, but budget is a matter, still you can come to Kapas Island first and then a smaller boat from Gem hotel can pick you up for free on a 5min ride(make sure to schedule this with the hotel, free for guests only).

If coming from Kapas, but not a guest at Gem Resort, still you can visit the island.
A short boat ride can be arranged with your hotel, or you can rent a kayak and go by yourself.
If kayaking, sea conditions should be noted and it’s advisable to wear a life jacket.

The hotel arranges private boats by request, costing rm160 one-way between 8:00-9:00am and rm198 one-way between 3:00-6:00pm.
The boat fits max 12 passengers.
If renting a private boat is something you would like/need to do, asking around Marang pier is a way to probably find lower rates on a more flexible schedule.

The Journey From China to Malaysia! How To Get To Kapas Island + First Look Into The Stunning Pulau

Today’s adventure starts in Shanghai, China and ends in Kapas Island, Malaysia.
Many haven’t heard about the extreme beauty of Malaysian beaches, a yet hidden secret, that we are bringing to light one after the other!

Not long ago we’ve been to Perhentian Islands, you can see how to get the best out of that clicking here.
The experience in Perhentian left us dreaming about some more Malaysia in our lives, and here we are manifesting the life we want to live.

The Journey From China to Malaysia! How To Get To Kapas Island + First Look Into The Stunning Pulau

Stopover in Kuala Lumpur:

From Kuala Lumpur, you need to go to Kuala Terengganu, where is located the nearest airport to Kapas.
If catching a bus from Kuala Lumpur to Kapas, the trajectory will be the same.

From Kuala Terengganu To Marang:

It will cost rm55 and take around 45min, usually there’s no waiting line.

From Marang to Kapas Island:

When in Marang, your next step will depend on the time you were able to arrive at the city.
As you can see below, the last boat departs at 4:30pm, if you are able to catch it just ask to be dropped in the pier. If not, you can stay in a hotel nearby the pier.
Prebook in case you want something more specific, if on a budget, there’s a simple yet clean hotel just above pizza hut on the main street leading to the pier for rm60 a night and no need to book in advance.

The morning market in Marang happens by the pier street and is a great attraction that we definitely recommend, with a big variety of exotic fruits and traditional desserts.
One hour is enough to check it out, then you can walk to the pier and turn your beach mood on.🏝

Marang Pier – Marang Jetty
Boat Schedule: Marang-Kapas(around 30min) – 9:30am, 11:30am, 1:30pm, 4:30pm.
Kapas-Marang(around 30min) – 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm, 5:00pm.
Price: rm30 for round trip(open ticket, the return can be scheduled anytime)

The Final Destination:

Kapas Island – Pulau Kapas
Kapas means cotton, named after the white sand of the Island, that alone is enough to catch my attention.
Then, there’s the crystal clear water and the fairly good snorkeling, we were able to spot several black tip reef sharks, barracudas, parrot fish, blue spotted stingray, some nice corals, etc.
Not as rich underwater as in Perhentian, but definitely worth a try.

The island is still somewhat unknown, there’s a lot of free space on the beach, and when out of the main beaches the chance of having it all to yourself is high.
The laid back atmosphere, beautiful nature, and small enough to explore from on tip to the other.
It is nearby other very nice islands and can match perfectly on an island hopping vacation.

Can’t wait to see more of Kapas? Let us know in the comments below!💙

I know how hard it can be to see those coral reefs and not to jump in, so keep tuned for the next videos and we’ll dip together in those waters!

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach – Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Our first time in Malaysia couldn’t be better with Perhentians as our opening place!
It’s a closed deal our return to see more of this enchanting country.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

And these are part of the reason why:

Teluk Dalam

At first we arrived in Teluk Dalam, the sun was up and the shiny crystal water put a spell on everyone on the boat.
First impression was gold and it was there to stay.

Amazing Snorkeling Trip + Bubbles Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Our hotel was a budget beach front bungalow, with the perfect view to wakeup for.
If you are used to budget hotels in Thailand, be prepared to lower your expectations, around here things are simpler.
That being said, the location was sublime enough to any detailed about the room be forgiven, specially for such prices.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

It’s not a must see if you are staying somewhere else, it is beautiful, but so is everywhere else on the island.
Recommended for people looking for a well located base to explore Besar island, with accommodation options suiting every budget.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

PIR Beach

PIR stands for Perhentian Island Resort, the hotel which the bay is named after.
If it fits your pocket, this is a very nice location to stay in Besar, otherwise Teluk Dalam is a short walk away (see more about that below).
It has a long stretch of sand, plenty of space to enjoy the beach in privacy.
The hotel restaurant is handy to have the chance to spend more time around.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Unfortunately we caught this beauty in a foggy day, even that way we could see the potential it has when the sun is up and shining.
Just about a hundred meters from the beach, lays the famous Turtle Point, were snorkeling trips stop to admire the giant turtles.
A definitely must see, with turtles your size on a gorgeous scenery.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Jungle Trek in between Teluk Dalam and PIR Beach

A 20 min walk separates the two beauties.
If coming from Teluk Dalam trails starts behind Arwana Resort, if from PIR it starts behind Perhentian Island Resort.
The path near by Arwana is covered with knee/thigh high weeds, but it clears up in about 5min.
The trek level is easy and beginners, children and elderly can do it.
