Exploring Vientiane, Laos – Temples Part 1

Exploring Vientiane, Laos - Temples Part 1

One of the main attractions in Vientiane are definitely the temples.
Distributed all around the city with different architectural styles, they are enchanting for the eyes and the soul!

Wat That Luang Neua

As there are many of them we divided this post into two parts, here we go with the first one:

Wat Xieng Yien

Located riverside with a quiet setting and traditional Laotian architecture you will find Wat Xieng Yien.
Contemplating the beauty around doesn’t take much time as this is a small temple and just across the street there’s our next stop Fude Miao temple.

Fude Miao

This is a Teochew Chinese temple where during Chinese new year celebrations are held.
If you have been in China you’ll notice first hand that the architecture is different from traditional Chinese temples.
A quick stop will be enough here as well unless you’re visiting during Chinese new year.😉

Vegetarian In The Golden Age

We had lunch twice at this cool vegan restaurant, the setting is very simple but the food shine.
The buffet lunch cost only 25,000 kip ( 3 usd! ) and offered delicious dishes.
Books with recipes were available in English and are a nice present for someone back home.🎁

That Luang

The majestic golden temple is a national symbol, one of the most important monuments in Laos.

Around the main pagoda there are few other temples to be visited, all of them distinct, like the Buddha statues with monkey tales at the temple in front(Wat That Luang Tai) or space paintings at the ceiling and walls on the one located to the left behind That Luang (Place Of Worship- ທັມມະສະພາ).

This group of temples deserves a time at your schedule without any doubts!
To complete the tour you can shop for souvenirs at the small street market just outside. Traditional Laotian skirts, belts, and straw hats were my favorite pieces from there.💘
