Magical D’Lagoon and bye to paradise! Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Last day of our special encounter with this place.
Salty skin, salty soul.
Interaction with a new culture and again our world becomes bigger! It’s true, the universe is always expanding.✨

Magical D’Lagoon and bye to paradise! Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

D’Lagoon🏝

Teluk Kerma, mostly called D’lagoon due the long-running hotel at its bay, is an amazing beach in Perhentian Kecil (small island).

Magical D’Lagoon and bye to paradise! Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

To Do🏊‍♀️

The island is gorgeous, just looking at it is enough!🌴
If you want to do something else though, there’s a dive shop, ATV’s, snorkeling equipment, banana boat, kayaks, and a free zip-line available at the hotel to further entertain yourself.
Hammocks and beach chairs are also placed around the beach with even a simple checkers with sea view.=]
There’s a turtle hatchery project being done by the hotel, you can see the baby turtles and eventually the mom! If the big turtle comes to the beach at night-time they will wake everyone up to see it (without interfering).🐢

Magical D’Lagoon and bye to paradise! Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Trekking🏃

There’s a jungle trek departing from behind the hotel leading to 3 different destinations: Turtle Beach (10 min walk), Adam and Eve( 20 min walk) and Long Beach(1 hour walk, steep way up, beautiful view though).
It’s perfect to explore different locations using D’Lagoon as a base.
If you are not into trekking, skip the Long Beach pathway (that can be done by boat), but don’t even consider skipping pristine Adam and Eve and Turtle Beach!

Corals and clams by D’Lagoon
The Food🍛

The restaurant here is short on options for vegans, if possible bring some fruits along.
Other choice is visiting the neighbor bays and have something to eat there (still short on fruits but there’s much more meal options).
The boat will cost rm 15 to Long Beach where there’s nicer food options than Coral Bay for example.

There’s a stall selling traditional Malay sweets at Kota Bahru airport.
Many of them are vegan and delicious, definitely worth the try.🍬
They can be a great souvenir as well, exotic new tastes are always a hit with my family.

It is always hard to say goodbye.☀️
I try not to overthink on whether we are going to be back one day or not and let the universe work its magic.
There’s of course the melancholy of saying goodbye and the very human urge of wanting to be back, but even after that I reflect on the whole situation and come to the conclusion that moment was manifested, it existed beautifully, it was there, forever imprinted on my mind, on our superconscious in form of a delicate mandala of love.
Which reminds me that now is all that exists, so there’s no more melancholy or urges, just the universe, dancing!❤️

Blue Spotted Stingrays!!! Enjoying Teluk KK – Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

We keep on living the dream, this time with gorgeous Teluk KK!
See also more of Teluk Dalam, and fall hard for Perhentian Besar charm.

Blue Spotted Stingrays!!! Enjoying Teluk KK - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Teluk KK

Located in Perhentian Besar, it’s a must go for people who want to do snorkeling.
Many snorkeling trips stop less than hundred meters from the sand on the called “Fish Point”.
Lot’s of fishes, corals and blue spotted stingrays.

Blue Spotted Stingrays!!! Enjoying Teluk KK - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia
Blue spotted stingray near the corals

If you just wish to sunbathe and enjoy the view, the beach is also very pleasant.
One of the nice things about it, is that you can start walking here and go all the way to Abdul’s Bay.
The path goes by the sand and also by skywalk near the rocks and sea.

Blue Spotted Stingrays!!! Enjoying Teluk KK - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

From here there’s a jungle trek that go all the way to Teluk Dalam.
Unfortunately the signalization is not there and the weeds covered the path, that now is really confusing.
There’s some ramifications where you just have no idea which way to go, unless they fix it recently you better off taking a taxi boat.

Tip: For those with a tight budget or just fans of camping and outdoors, there’s a camping site available at this bay.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach – Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Our first time in Malaysia couldn’t be better with Perhentians as our opening place!
It’s a closed deal our return to see more of this enchanting country.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

And these are part of the reason why:

Teluk Dalam

At first we arrived in Teluk Dalam, the sun was up and the shiny crystal water put a spell on everyone on the boat.
First impression was gold and it was there to stay.

Amazing Snorkeling Trip + Bubbles Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Our hotel was a budget beach front bungalow, with the perfect view to wakeup for.
If you are used to budget hotels in Thailand, be prepared to lower your expectations, around here things are simpler.
That being said, the location was sublime enough to any detailed about the room be forgiven, specially for such prices.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

It’s not a must see if you are staying somewhere else, it is beautiful, but so is everywhere else on the island.
Recommended for people looking for a well located base to explore Besar island, with accommodation options suiting every budget.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

PIR Beach

PIR stands for Perhentian Island Resort, the hotel which the bay is named after.
If it fits your pocket, this is a very nice location to stay in Besar, otherwise Teluk Dalam is a short walk away (see more about that below).
It has a long stretch of sand, plenty of space to enjoy the beach in privacy.
The hotel restaurant is handy to have the chance to spend more time around.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Unfortunately we caught this beauty in a foggy day, even that way we could see the potential it has when the sun is up and shining.
Just about a hundred meters from the beach, lays the famous Turtle Point, were snorkeling trips stop to admire the giant turtles.
A definitely must see, with turtles your size on a gorgeous scenery.

Marvelous Teluk Dalam + PIR Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Jungle Trek in between Teluk Dalam and PIR Beach

A 20 min walk separates the two beauties.
If coming from Teluk Dalam trails starts behind Arwana Resort, if from PIR it starts behind Perhentian Island Resort.
The path near by Arwana is covered with knee/thigh high weeds, but it clears up in about 5min.
The trek level is easy and beginners, children and elderly can do it.

Love in Paradise!!! Romantic Beach + Coral Bay – Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Our adventure goes on in alluring Perhentian Islands!
Beach lovers will get addicted to Malaysia after stepping the foot on these delightful sands.
This time we add to our collection with Romantic Beach and Coral Bay.

Love in Paradise!!! Romantic Beach + Coral Bay - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Coral Bay

Located in Perhentian Kecil, it’s the less appealing of all bays in Perhentian Islands.
It might have been a paradise 10 or 20 years ago, but not anymore.
It’s an option for budget accommodation near the party scene, still Long Beach is a better choice.

Love in Paradise!!! Romantic Beach + Coral Bay - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

If you are in Long Beach a short walk brings you to Coral Bay, from where Romantic Beach is a 5 min boat ride away.
There’s signs offering taxi boats along the sand stretch, just choose one and make sure to set a pickup time with the captain.

Love in Paradise!!! Romantic Beach + Coral Bay - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Romantic Beach

Chances are you will be there alone or at least comfortably dividing it with very few people.
Easy to see the reason why this beach of Kecil is named that way, couples can most definitely appreciate the privacy and have a wonderful date.
Perfect place to relax and enjoy what the beach has to give.

Love in Paradise!!! Romantic Beach + Coral Bay - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

When we arrived the water was like a swimming pool, nearby our departing time(5pm) the sea was getting wavy.So if you are looking for snorkel time, make sure to arrive early enough.
There’s no facilities at this bay.

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve – Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

When I first stepped on the beach, I saw the beauty, but the true one was yet to be uncovered.
From the early morning arrival, soon the sun king rose and on that moment I saw it: as in the movies, as in heaven, as in the dreams; unspoiled, deserted, giving of joy Turtle Beach.

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Things kept its pace when snorkeling, swimming with blue spotted sting rays, black tip reef sharks, napoleon fishes and other hundreds of beautiful creatures.
There it is! We found it, look no further! As I said before, you are the universe! Just be it.✨

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Turtle Beach

Our favorite bay in Perhentian Kecil (small island).
First there is a short walk inside the jungle, helping the movie vibe, than you push the branches and reveal the landscape!
If not coming by the 3 jungle treks that end here, you can rent a boat from rm 15-25 depending from where you depart from.

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

The beach is perfect, white sand, lush greens, crystal clear water, corals, rocks and islets nearby perfectly arranged by mother nature.
The snorkeling don’t fall behind; colorful corals, wild range of fishes, sharks, sting rays and much more.
While there’s the possibility of meeting someone at the bay, the greater chance is to be there by yourself. We’ve been there twice, alone.=]

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Adam and Eve

Our second favorite in Perhentian Kecil.
It may be your favorite, Turtle and Adam and Eve are close runners.
For us the deal breaker was the snorkeling, Turtle was richer in marine life.

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

As you can get by name, here was the original location of the Garden of Eden. Just kidding, but it might as well be.😜
Just like Turtle, the access is done by 3 jungle treks or by boat.
From here you can snorkel to the nearby nameless small bays.

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Long Beach

The main stretch of sand in Perhentian is Long Beach, it is not the most beautiful though.
Perfect for those looking for night life and meeting lot’s of other travelers, not recommended for families or people looking for a quiet place.
There’s a lot of budget accommodation, restaurants, shops, bars and dive centers located there.

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Unfortunately it may not be the safest place, there’s history of burglary.
Make sure the windows and door of you room is well locked and don’t leave nothing alone at the beach while bathing.

Lost Paradise!!! Pristine Turtle Beach and Adam and Eve - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Important Information

*There’s no facilities at the bay, bring water and anything else you wish.
You can walk to D’Lagoon to eat, or to take the boat to eat somewhere else.
*If you came by boat, you can fix a time to be picked up from the bay.
*Don’t leave anything at the beach, it can get stolen.
*Don’t step at the corals and bring your trash with you when you leave.
*The path in between Turtle and Adam and Eve takes around 10 min.
*Special attention is required towards belongings when staying in Long Beach.
Keep an eye on your drinks as well.

Stunning D’Lagoon + Bubbles – Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Such a small place carrying such gigantic beauty!
This are Perhentians, with every bay offering a feeling of new destination.
Ready to please the ones looking from seclusion to party (or both!) in a complete paradise.
Above all, ready to enchant!

Stunning D’Lagoon + Bubbles - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Bubbles🏖

Our favorite in Perhentian Besar due to the combination of factors: yummy food, great beach, peaceful environment, secluded yet offering facilities, full of sharks and great snorkeling.

Stunning D’Lagoon + Bubbles - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

To Do🐟

Chill! Just relax and appreciate the view!
Apart from that, there’s a dive shop, kayak, snorkeling, yoga and a turtle and reef conservation project.

The Food🍉

Delicious well seasoned dishes are available with plenty of selections suitable for vegans when comparing with other places in the island.
The fruit plate was big and sweet, opposite from what we had been experiencing in Besar, that seems to be scarce in ripe fresh fruits.

Incredible Snorkeling Trip + Bubbles Beach – Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Humans thrive among nature, is our natural habitat, is our ecosystem, we are part of it! Don’t ever try to full yourself with something else, deep inside you know it.
That’s why when on vacations people go to the mountains, to the sea, anywhere with nature. We are energized by it, we connect, we belong.

Amazing Snorkeling Trip + Bubbles Beach - Perhentian Islands, Malaysia

Knowing that, I jump on the sea with love and appreciate everything that on reality are just part of me, of you, is the beauty manifesting.
On that moment i’m present, here, now, alive!
I wish the same to you, that’s why we try to share the beauty we see. Then so you can remember, that’s you! YOU ARE THE UNIVERSE!✨

There’s different routes and schedules to fit all.
Prices don’t differ much between shops, the choice will probably be based on the spots you wish to see.

But first, you have to get there:

How to get to Perhentian Islands

From Kuala Lumpur

Flights are so cheap, there’s no reason to take a long bus trip.
The nearest airport is located in Kota Bharu.
Kuala Terenganu airport can also be used, but is farther, if able to choose Kota Bharu is the best option.

From Kota Bahru the next step will be one of the following:

1- By Bus + Boat  or  2- By Taxi + Boat

1- Bus #639 costs rm 6 and takes about 1h40m.
Arriving in Kuala Besut you need go to Kuala Besut Jetty(the pier) and take the boat to Perhentian Islands.
See all info about the boat on “From Kuala Besut Jetty” below.

2-There’s a taxi stand in Kota Bahru airport, you can buy a package including taxi + the ferry boat over there.
Taxi ride will take an hour and cost rm 65 per taxi (we paid rm 32.5 because we were sharing with 2 more people who paid the other half).
See all info about the boat on “From kuala Besut Jetty” below.

Optionally you can buy only the taxi and later the ferry boat tickets at Kuala Besut, the price will be the same.
A great tip for budget travelers is to share the taxi with someone else, most of the tourists arriving on your flight will be going to Perhentian to.
We made 2 new friends that way! =]
