Redang Island – Marine Park & Monkeys – Malaysia

Redang adventure keeps going, now in a different part of the island, bringing new territories to be explored!
Today we visit Teluk Pauh, Pulau Pinang, meet some monkeys, eat delicious Malay food, and relax with massages.

Marine Park – Pulau Pinang

Pinang is an islet just a few minutes by boat from Redang main island.
The trip can be arranged with your hotel (often times is included in package deals), or by renting a boat at the pier.
It offers great snorkeling and with a huge variety of species in shallow waters.
The paradisiacal look and powdery white sand make it perfect for sunbathing and enjoying the nature all around.
The only con is the lack of a restaurant, which makes hard to spend a whole day on the island unless you came prepared.

Having A Blast In Redang Island + Top Things To Do – Malaysia

Every time I encounter a turtle the experience gets holy.
It’s the universe and I dancing.
And man, we dance it out quite a few times during this trip!✨

Having A Blast In Redang Island + Top Things To Do - Malaysia

Here’s a list of the best attractions in other-worldly Redang Island:

Top Things To Do

☞Snorkeling
Giant skull of fishes, sharks, turtles, rays, corals, just drop in the water!
Even though the monsoon season was about to start, the sea was stable enough for snorkeling to be done.
In the evenings it would get a little wavy, showing what was to come.
We stayed until the last day when hotels started closing for the stormy season.

☞Dive
A great diving destination, offering special encounters every single time you jump into the water.
With a big variety of dive sites, average visibility of 20 meters, and a huge showcase of soft and hard corals.
No up and down current(something I’m particularly afraid of), making it a fairly safe place to dive.

☞Chill On The Beach
No explanation needed😉.

☞Trekking/Explore
Pulau Redang is 7km long and 6km wide, giving plenty of choices for trek lovers.
Among the viewing possibilities are mangroves, river, hills, rare animal species, and of course beaches.

☞Volleyball By The Beach
Some hotels set a volleyball net by the beach, even if you are not staying in one of them, just walk by and ask to join the game.
Everyone is happy to share the space and bring some new excitement to it.

☞Kayak
Renting a kayak (or using the ones available at your resort if that is the case), can be definitely a fun activity.
Make sure to pack the sunblock, place your belongings in a dry bag, and ask route tips for your hotel staff before leaving.
Snorkeling can be incorporated into your kayak trip, making for a fun half day out.
Using a life jacket is advisable.

☞Massage
Starting from rm 100 an hour at Pasir Panjang, can be done beachfront or in a spa room.
Some resorts offer bookings of a local company starting from rm70 for 30min(honestly not a great massage, but due to the lack of options it may be considerable).

☞Boat Trips
Booking a boat trip is easy yet not a huge range of options are available.
The two main ways are either booking with your hotel(or neighbor hotels) or ask around the pier/fisherman village, which opposite from Thailand, for example, won’t be on the cheaper side.
If you have a package, the trips will probably be included, what can be value for money knowing that there are no cheap self-booking options.

☞Eat
Local dishes hold exotic, delicious flavors.
There’s plenty of main courses, desserts, and fruits to be pleased by.
Vegans need beforehand planning with the chosen resort to make it happen, in our case, it turned out well.

Dreamy, Secluded Redang Island + Where To Stay – Malaysia

How amazing is our world, how lucky we are to be able to go through such experiences!
They are one attitude away, free yourself, spread your wings and fly!
Divine Redang is one of these gifts from the universe, just waiting for you.😉
Grab it, manifest, live it!✨

Dreamy, Secluded Redang Island - Malaysia

Where To Stay

As I mentioned in the previous post, unfortunately, there are no backpacker prices available on the island.
There are still a big variety of hotels, from mid-range to high-end prices.

My advice is to stay beachfront, Redang is not an easy/cheap place to move around, and there’s not much to see apart from the main reason you’re there.
No night markets, pubs, nice restaurants, or whatsoever out of the beachfront.
There’s only one road on the island and it doesn’t access many of the bays, it is a mistake not to stay beachfront, there’s no reason too.

We wanted to get our diving certification done, packages were the best/cheapest/value option.
If you are planning on doing snorkeling trips, it may be the best choice to go with a package too.
We are usually not prone to buying packages but in Pulau Redang, it was what worked the best for us.

If you are on a tight budget and choose one of the small hotels that are not in front of the beach(and are still expensive), paying for trips/ snorkeling trips/taxis/dives to visit the places you wish, can end up costing you the same as the package deals or more.
I know that’s not the case in many places, but it is in Redang.
Asking around the pier or in the village won’t put the price much down, you will either end up isolated and not experiencing the island as much or spending a whole more then you expected.

We had an amazing time and recommend staying at the main beach, Pasir Panjang.
Redang interior is quite undeveloped and at this bay, you have the opportunity to walk the long beach, look at small shops, have some massage, and restaurants options.
Also, it is magnificent and not crowded at all, the peaceful feeling remains even though it is the most concentrated area.
Fantastic snorkeling can be done out of the shore.

The hotels we stayed:

Redang Pelangi Resort*

Redang Island Resort*

**Would not stay again due to the isolated location.

*Not sponsored.

We Found Paradise On Earth! Redang Island + How To Get There – Malaysia

Chin-dropping Redang is today’s destination, with beauty from another world, pleasing just about anyone.
When traveling in Terengganu, every local you chat with will advise you to visit Redang. Words of knowledge my friends.
We had it in our plans and just got reassured by the endless compliments people had to the place.

We Found Paradise On Earth! Redang Island + How To Get There - Malaysia

The paradisiacal island, unfortunately, doesn’t cater for backpacker prices, but if you are going to choose somewhere to splurge, this is most definitely a great choice.
Still, prices are not high as the Maldives per say, and the packages are value for money, you end up not spending much(or nothing at all) out of it.
But first you have to find your way to this magnificent place:

How To Get There

From Kuala Lumpur:

✈By Plane:
From Kuala Lumpur, you have to fly to Kuala Terengganu, where is located the nearest airport to Redang.
Fares are usually cheap, costing even the same as a bus ticket when bought in advance or during promotions.

From Kuala Terengganu:

✈By plane:
Boats to Redang depart from 2 different piers, in 2 different cities, is really important to have this information in hands before deciding the next step of your trip.

If your boat departs from Kuala Terengganu, you can take a taxi (or call it by an app) to Kuala Terengganu Jetty or to your hotel depending on your arrival time.
It will cost you around rm20 and take 20-30min.

If your boat departs from Merang Jetty, look for taxi stalls, there you can book your trip.
It will cost rm55 and take around 45min, usually, there’s no waiting line.
If you are arriving late, and can’t take the boat on the same day, check the “From Merang” section below.

The Hidden Diver’s Paradise of Malaysia – Tenggol Island

The Hidden Diver’s Paradise of Malaysia - Tenggol Island
Whale Shark

Experienced divers of Malaysia hold a secret spot, where diverse diving sites offering interesting attractions even to the most skilled divers can be found.
The gorgeous island is remote, quiet, and unspoiled.
But don’t worry, from now on you know it too, it’s called Tenggol and it’s waiting for you!

What To Do

⚪Dive
Experienced divers are often attracted to the island that is regarded as the best dive site in Peninsular Malaysia, with reefs in almost perfect conditions.
It has more than 20 diving sites, with shallow and also deeper diving spots.
Dive season starts in March and ends in October.
Current is present, a skilled instructor who knows the area is recommended.

The Hidden Diver’s Paradise of Malaysia - Tenggol Island

⚪Snorkeling
Either from the shore or by boat, snorkeling spots are available all around the island.
We came in hopes of spotting a whale shark, and there it was!
A few turtles, blacktip reef sharks, giant barracuda, bat, parrot, and pufferfishes also came to play.

⚪Chill On The Beach
As usual, not much explanation needed for this one.
Tune on you best relaxation mode and be happy!☀

⚪Eat
Buffet-style meals are served, offering a taste of local cuisine.
In such a small island, vegans will easily be concern about going hungry during their stay.
We informed the hotel about our preferences in advance and were very pleased with the results.
Simple, yet delicious vegan food, with new options every meal was served to us separately from the buffet.
Honestly, after a bit of struggle in Kapas, eating the same few available vegan dishes over and over, we didn’t want to leave Tenggol.🍜

⚪Explore
Walking along the main bay, and grabbing a boat to go around the island is the only way to explore it.
Poisonous snakes inhabit Tenggol, making trekking a definite no go.
Still, it’s a small place, there’s only a short boat ride between you and any place you wish to see.

⚪Yoga
On such peaceful environment, it’s time to put your zen on and try some yoga moves to connect even further with yourself.
Which here will be easier, humans thrive when in contact with nature.
If you don’t know how to do it, take at least 5 min to meditate, close your eyes and just be aware.

The Hidden Diver’s Paradise of Malaysia - Tenggol Island

⚪Make Friends and Sense The Culture
Everyone, from staff to other guests, was extremely friendly and helpful.
Being in such environment is a great opportunity to learn more about a new culture and make new friends.
You can feel the good vibes, beautiful place with beautiful people.🌈
