Koh Samui – Thailand

I went to Samui for work and tried to capture as much as I could of the island to show you!😉
I had some free time as well and use it to visit one of the most famous beaches in town.

Unfortunately the weather wasn’t the best during my stay, I heard that the beaches I visited are much calmer waters on a regular day.
Still the sea is always pleasant to be nearby and I had time to visit a night market (right up my alley!😜) too.

Fisherman Village Night Market

When you hear the name “Fisherman Village” you may imagine a scenario, but hold on!
It’s actually a beachfront long street with crafts, street food, bars, restaurants; not an actual village.
The place is great for souvenirs, grabbing some snacks or even stopping by a seafront restaurant for supper.

Address: Bohput Beach Road, Koh Samui

How To Get There

By Flight

There’s only 2 flight companies offering services to Koh Samui, Bangkok Airways and Thai Airways.
The airport is privately owned by Bangkok Airways, one of the most beautiful airports I’ve been to.
For this reason ticket fares are quite high compared to usual flight cost in Thailand.
However it’s the only way to travel directly to the Island, great option if you’re short on time or just don’t want spend any traveling around.

Koh Samui - Thailand

By Flight + Ferry Boat

If you’re running out of time but the flight tickets to Koh Samui are to high for your budget, there’s a option in between: embarking a flight to Surat Thani + Ferry Boat.
Prices will be a quarter or less than flying directly to Samui, specially if bought in advance.
The trip time will extend a lot though, from Surat Thani Airport there’s an extra hour ride to the pier.
For ferry details check the section bellow.

By Bus/Train + Ferry Boat

The other option would be taking a bus or train to Surat Thani and then a ferry-boat to Samui.
Traveling by land in Thailand is safe and you get to see more of the country on the way.

If coming from Bangkok, our recommendation is the overnight train. That way you can sleep well to later enjoy your day at the beach.
Train tickets can be bought at Hua Lamphong train station as a combo with ferry included preventing any overcharges and making it easy on you as everything is already arranged.

Hua Lamphong – หัวลำโพง
(Officially “Bangkok Railway Station” – สถานีรถไฟกรุงเทพ)
Address: Hua Lamphong, Rama 4 Road, Mahaphruttharam, Bangrak, Bangkok
Address in Thai: ที่อยู่: หัวลำโพง ถ.พระราม 4 แขวง มหาพฤฒาราม เขต บางรัก กทม
MRT: Hua Lamphong station – Blue line, exit 2
BTS(skytrain): *Interchange with MRT needed- Asoke station – Sukhumvit line, interchange with MRT blue line
Website(Thailand Railway): http://www.railway.co.th/home *In this website you can check all timetables, fares and seating options with pictures of all trains in Thailand.

Being a busy destination, ferry timetable is extensive, easy to fit with diverse schedules.
Ferry ride takes about 1.5 hours costing around 120-600 baht depending on company and package, running between 5:00am to 7:00pm.
If you purchased the train+ferry combo in Hua Lamphong, the boat is already covered.

Koh Samui - Thailand

Beaches

I spent time in 2 beaches during my stay: Choeng Mon Beach and Outrigger Resort private beach.
They were great for relaxing, unfortunately while I stayed at the island the weather was a bit rough and the sea wasn’t proper for swimming nor snorkeling so I can’t tell how it usually looks.
In Choeng Mon I liked the way the ocean collide at the south corner, I also did a Thai massage facing the sea that is always a must in the Smile Land.

At Outrigger’s beach there was a great comfy deck to chill by the sea, which I love to do with a fresh Thai coconut in hands.

Koh Samui was a quick but fun stop, I was in a work trip but I sure did relax too! What about you, feeling the beach vibe?Let us know at the comments bellow!❤️
