The New Shanghai Disneyland – China

A new Disney park opened last June in Shanghai and we couldn’t be more excited to enjoy ourselves at the magical land!
The weather was scalding, but nothing like childhood memories to make you forget any discomfort and focus on the colorful side.

Our favorite was the Tron roller coaster located at Tomorrow Land, which we did ride several times!😄
“Soaring Over The Horizon” at the Adventure Isle was also a great attraction that we advise you to try.
Overall we enjoyed our experience and would come back again.

The New Shanghai Disneyland - China

Unfortunately the audio are almost all in Mandarin, taking away a bit of the atmosphere for non-speakers.
But nothing like Minnie Mouse shaped food(and ears) to cheer you up!🐭
Few vegan options can be found around, like the traditional Chinese bun filled with sweet red bean.

Be prepared to face some serious lines, you’ll sure remember this is the most populated country in the world.
Try to pick fast passes every land you go, it is a must to better enjoy this park.
We recommend to avoid weekends and holidays, as well to arrive at opening time, it will put you on endless queues.

One day is not enough to try most of the attractions, if you want to sample it all keep two days of your schedule(if possible with a break between them).
Photographers are spread over the place, you’ll receive a card where all pictures you take will be stored.Later you can buy the photos as you wish at the park or at the app.

We had fun and now are excited to hear from you!

Long Museum West Bund Surroundings – Shanghai, China

At Huangpu riverside you can find Long Museum West Bund and its beautiful surroundings.
Part of the “West Bund Cultural Corridor” this is a great place to walk, practice sports or just chill enjoying the view.
Along the riverbank the now sculptures of what used to be an industrial port mixed with interacting projects such as the climbing walls(adult and kid sized) counting with soft beds(easy for beginners) ensure entertainment for all.We practiced some acroyoga with friends right bellow a giant products dispenser from the old port.
The museum itself open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm (closed on Mondays) and consists in a world-class private collection of 2 owners that wanted to spread cultural education.👏
You can end the day grabbing a coffee (tea for me please 😉) around the museum and watch the sunset at Huangpu river.

Shanghai Awesome Tai Chi Fight – China

Diego’s university, Shanghai University of Engineering Science, was having a free tai chi workshop and we went there to try and understand more about this Chinese martial art.
At first Master Pu Jia Qi explain us about the history of Tai Chi and then the 6 divisions inside the art. With the time tai chi was modified and its more modern versions are mostly originated from Chen Village a historical village created by a martial art teacher.
T’ai Chi Ch’uan (Tàijíquán) means “the ultimate fist” and is a mix of health, martial art and meditation.
Then we focused on Zhaobao style, the one that Pu is a specialist.
This style involves self-defense technic using the opponent power against himself, redirecting his energy(his Qì). Qì (Ch’i) means “life energy”.
For that reason you don’t need strength neither they have age limits, because you will use your enemy force not your own.
Master Qi showed us different techniques and then paired us to try them out.
I have to admit i lack coordination in general, so is a really good thing to learn self-defense but challenging as well.😜
Hubby in the other hand had many previews experiences with couple of martial arts and got everything easy.
Since my first time in China Tai Chi always hold my attention and made me desire to participate. Finally learning more about it was truly nice.

Master Pu Jia Qi has an academy in Shanghai:

Built originally in 1882 to place 2 Buddha statues from Burma this Buddhist temple is one of Shanghai’s must see.
The big stars of the place can’t be recorded or taken pictures of so still some mystery to see for yourself.
The central location just makes it easy to feet at you schedule even if you’re not staying long.
Mine and Diego’s favorite part was inside the Grand Hall (main hall located in the center) with so many details that your eyes get filled with delight.
Around you can find religious related stores with statues, candles, chanting books, souvenirs and more.
Open from 8:30am to 5:00pm, admission fee 20 yuan.

Zhouzhuang Water Town – 周庄水乡古镇 in Kunshan, China

The ancient town of Zhouzhuang is an opportunity to visit well-preserved historical China.
Built parts in Yuan Dynasty, Ming Dynasty, and Qing Dynasty the place has over 900 years.
Taking a boat down the canal is a must to appreciate the town that is parted by lakes and rivers, the conductor usually wears traditional clothes and will sing folk songs for an additional tip (something that I advise you to do so).Day and night trips have different routes.
Our conductor told us that is possible to go until Shanghai by boat departing from the water town and it was the most used way in the past.
Hubby’s favorite thing about this place was the old times feeling and having the elderly playing classic Chinese board games around just added to it.
Trying local snacks, fruits and drinks are definitely part of the experience and so are shopping! Souvenirs and crafts are available along the streets.
There’s an entrance fee of 100 yuan(daytime), 80 yuan(after 4:00pm) and free after 20:00 but if spending the night the ticket can be used up to 3 days upon request.Scenic spots are open from 8:00-16:30 although the town is always open.
Easily accessible by car, taxi or bus from Suzhou(around 1h ); Shanghai(around 1:30h) or Hangzhou(around 2:00h).

Bus departs from: Shanghai- Shanghai Long-distance General Bus Station, Shanghai South Long-distance Bus Station, Shanghai Hongqiao Long-distance Bus Station, Shanghai Tour Bus Center and Hongkou Football Stadium.
Suzhou- Suzhou North Bus Station, Suzhou Railway Station(north square).
Hangzhou- Hangzhou North Bus Station.

Address: 121 Quanfu Road, Kunshan, Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, China
Address In Chinese: 地址: 中国江苏省苏州市昆山市全福路121号

Tip: If you like a more quiet environment it’s nice to arrive early around 7:00am, but if you want the souvenir shops to be open and don’t mind the rustle 10:00am is a good time for you.

Old Shanghai – 上海老城厢 and Yuyuan Garden – 豫园 in Shanghai, China

A traditional garden surrounded by ancient architecture and souvenir shops at Old Shanghai will transport you to real China.
The Yu garden open from 8:30am to 4:45pm, but there’s more to the place to be enjoyed so make sure to schedule enough time to appreciate it.

You can spend a whole day around discovering new alleys with anything you can imagine, spend some time at a Chinese tea house and walk in the streets feeling like you are in a movie.
There’s also the opportunity to watch a puppet show at the streets and/or take a picture wearing old style Chinese garment after the garden entrance.
My favorite place in Shanghai, definitely not to miss.

Tip:* If you enjoy searching for knick-knackery for bargain prices in tinny shops, getting inside the buildings out of the main street around here can be a dream!
*Shanghai is an extremely safe city but at major tourist points there’s scams being reported so do not engage in activities with strangers or people who pronounce themselves city volunteers and keep an eye at your personal belongings.

Jing’An Temple – 静安寺 in Shanghai,China

In the middle of the city, you can find the beautiful Buddhist Jing An Temple shinning its gold color and charming architecture.
First built in 247 AD its most recent reconstruction was in 1880.
When you walk through the main entrance the view is undeniably breathtaking, there is a vibe in the air mixed with the temple arrangement that just feels good to be enjoyed.
Right in the middle, you will see a pagoda brazier where you can throw a coin(or many) and if it gets inside is believed to bring you good luck.
One of my favorite things about Buddhist temples are the extremely detailed ceilings and roof paintings, don’t forget to look up and appreciate them.
Is Shanghai on your bucket list?We can’t wait to hear your experience there!Share with us in the comments below.😃
