I’m a street market lover and if you are too, let’s go crazy together about Chatuchak!
The largest market in Thailand and among the largest in the world is going on for over 60 years.
Covering 27 acres area, divided into 27 sections and with over 10000 stalls Chatuchak has a diverse range of products.
The map separates the areas based on 9 main goods, but there are much more options mixed around.
Due to the huge size, sometimes can be challenging finding the sector you want to visit. The trick here is looking up, signs with the market map are all around, hanging from the ceiling.
The market opens on Friday for wholesale and on Saturday and Sunday for the public.
Theoretically, it opens from 6:00 am-6:00 pm, but I can assure you that arriving before 9:30 is a waste of time since most of the shops are closed and you gonna have to wait around.
This is a wonderful place to buy souvenirs with usually better prices than the other touristic points, but don’t forget to bargain, the real prices are most of the times lower than on the first offer.
If you want to grab something to eat, walk around, shopping, foot massage and coffee break you can keep a full day of your schedule here.
However, if you just want to check the market out do some shopping and is not much into street food half day is enough for you.
Tip: Comfortable shoes and light clothing are convenient, the market is quite crowded and can be hot in some areas.
